My car accident was very unfortunate, and took a lot
away from me. But, it didn’t take away my love for creative writing, which I found in Ms. LaValle’s 8th Grade English Class,
1980-81. In 1985, I graduated from Chenango Valley High School, Binghamton, NY. Fall 1985, I attended Broome Community
College, Binghamton, NY. On, September 24, 1985, I was driving home from college, taking advantage of a green light, at the
foot of the hill I live on, when my car was broad sided by an ambulance skidding through a red light on the highway, at 74
mph, flipping over the top, and knocking me, and my ‘78 Cougar into the bank at the bottom of Old State Road. |
| I
suffered a broken neck, and a head injury, which knocked me into a coma
for 9 weeks. When I came out of the coma, I was transferred from Wilson
Hospital, Johnson City to Binghamton General Hospital to start,
in-patient Therapy; speech therapy to learn to talk, again, cognitive
therapy to learn general life, again, and physical therapy to learn to
walk, again - there I had to learn to crawl, again, before I could try
walking. I was discharged from the hospital January 3, 1986. Physical
Therapy was the last I graduated from, which was in the summer of 1986,
as an outpatient. |
| I
returned to Broome Community College, in 1986, and graduated from
college, with a Marketing Degree, spring 1990. I enrolled in the
Institute of Children’s Literature Program. I earned my degree in 1993.
In 1998, and for every year continuing, I’ve been chosen to have my
poetry printed in coffee house books through Poetry.com. |
| I fell in love at first sight, March 1995, at New Smyrna
Beach, Florida, where I met the man I married in 2000. My husband is a Vietnam Vet, a green beret from the Special
Forces. |
| I went through a lot of relearning to be where I am,
today. But, after all of my struggles, I am fortunate to be able to have the time to follow my love for writing. |
