In
1979, while teaching, I realized that I wanted to become a rural doctor
for my home community. From the onset, all I heard from others was "You
are too old. You will never make it. You don't have a chance." |
For
the next eight years I worked diligently applying for admission to a
medical school while continuing to teach and obtain my B.S.N. as an
R.N. Over and over I was turned down. "To make a dream come true, the
first requirement is a great capacity to dream: the second is
persistence — a faith in that dream." Finally, in 1988, at the age of
thirty eight I was accepted into medical school. Once again the
nay-sayers were there casting their doubt that I would make it. A
battle to the end which was celebrated at my graduation June 5, 1994!
It took another battle and test of fortitude to complete my post
graduate training in the north. Finally I returned to my home community
in 1995 and began my solo practice at the age of forty five. The
following years were just a continuation of a Journey to Remember! Please visit Dr. Scott's new website, www.drjoycescott.com. |
